King wrote into his diary a passionate declaration of his faith in the genuineness of the [séance] experience:
There can be no doubt whatever that the persons I have been talking with were the loved ones & others I have known and who have passed away. It was the spirits of the departed. There is no other way on earth of accounting for what we have all experienced this week. Just because it is so self-evident, it seems hard to believe. It is like those who had Christ with them in His day. Because it was all so simple, so natural, they would not believe & sought to destroy. I know whereof I speak, that nothing but the presence [of] those who have departed this life, but not this world, or vice versa could account for the week's experiences.
